Seed or sod?
There are advantages to both methods and several things should be considered when making this decision. Cost, watering, weed control, slope, exposure and maintenance are all factors that need to be kept in mind. It's best that we discuss the options to determine which solution makes sense for you.
How long does seed take to germinate?
It takes 7 to 21 days on average, depending on the type of seed and weather conditions. After the seeds germinate, the grass is very susceptible to drying out until the roots develop enough to sustain the new plant. Two to three light waterings per day are the best method to promote germination and establishment.
How can I control undesirable grasses and weeds in my lawn?
The first step would be identifying what weed(s) you have. In some cases a herbicide treatment will be all that is necessary, otherwise, in more extreme situations, the area might need a complete renovation by removing the existing turf & weeds followed by topdressing with soil and seed/sod.
Do I need to fertilize my new lawn?
Yes! After about 6 weeks, a starter lawn fertilizer is recommended. It is important to follow a regular fertilizer program to ensure a vigorous lawn.
